RECENT WORK
“SURVIVAL MODE” (NBC)
I co-produced two episodes of an NBC/Peacock docuseries that explores the real-life impact of climate change-driven natural disasters. For our episode on the devastating 2022 Eastern Kentucky floods, I spent two weeks embedded in Hazard, Kentucky, a former coal-mining town. Living and working in this often-overlooked region allowed me to experience Appalachian culture firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of a community that's too often forgotten. Projects like this, which highlight underrepresented stories and amplify voices that challenge prevailing narratives, are what I’m most passionate about.
“CELTIC CITY” (HBO)
What I loved most about working on this monumental series (nine hour-long episodes) was that we weren’t just documenting the legendary history of the Boston Celtics. We were using the team as a lens to explore the essence of Boston itself: its rich culture, complex racial history, Catholic roots, and blue-collar spirit. In many ways, the city became a character in its own right, reflected in the incredible sports moments and intense players and coaches that have passed through this 75+ year franchise.
“BLENDING IN” (KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER)
I was hired by a museum in Kentucky to create a series of short films that explore the U.S. immigrant experience. I worked closely with eight men and women who had recently arrived in the country, capturing their personal stories on camera. My goal was to craft a narrative that reflected the complexities, challenges, and unique gifts required to adapt to a new culture, while honoring the unique resilience and humanity of our individual participants. I learned so much during the making of this series.
“Dee's work is ambitious and cleverly executed.”

INDIE PROJECTS
“NORMAL”
Originally conceptualized as an animated short, the audio series “NORMAL” weaves the stories and perspectives of dozens of real people into one singular story about the average life of a body under patriarchy, and our disordered normal. My co-creator and I interviewed over 40 people for this piece, exploring the nuanced relationships that our subjects had with the mirror, the menu, the scale, the plate, the gym, the opposite gender, the concept of “normal,” and the reality of self-objectification. We are currently applying for funding with the hopes of animating this short film.
“STORMING CAESARS PALACE” (PBS)
Through my years working on SCP, I learned what a true labor of love independent filmmaking is. Often on a team of just three people, we pulled this historical documentary over the finish line. I am very proud to have played a role in telling Ruby Duncan’s story: one of an impoverished single black woman changing history.
“When Ruby Duncan faces the stigma and harassment of a fraud-obsessed and broken system, she ignites “Mother Power,” mobilizing a welfare rights group to march down the Vegas Strip, demanding dignity, justice, democratic participation, and an adequate income in 1971.”
“PRETTY, ANGRY”
In 2018 I launched a 5-episode interview series called “Pretty, Angry: The Podcast” with the explicit goal of expanding the conversations I was having at my women’s college beyond our university walls. Pulling heavily from Virginia Vallian’s book Why So Slow, we wanted to explore the unconscious gender stigmas we all hold and where they come from. Through a combination of psychological theory, personal anecdotes, and in-depth interviews with fellow Barnard students, my co-host and I set out to “investigate and articulate what the hell women are yelling about.”
“Dee is full of creative ideas, has great script-writing skills and a strong aptitude for visual storytelling.”
